Mass. House, Senate pass budget, Patrick considers sales tax veto

(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - The Massachusetts House and Senate have passed a $27.4 billion 2009-2010 budget that includes nearly a billion dollars in new taxes, $1.5 billion in one-time federal stimulus funds and about $2.4 billion in spending cuts, but at least one controversial part of the bill might not make it past the Governor's desk.

The House passed the budget, 110-46, and the Senate followed with a 31-8 vote. But Governor Deval Patrick says if he doesn't get an ethics reform package on his desk before he needs to sign the budget, he will veto the line-item sales tax.
