That flooding rain last weekend was heavy snow in the white Mountains of New Hampshire. Check the deep new snow in this SkiNH video shot Tuesday March 16, 2010 at Waterville Valley New Hampshire.
New England has deep snow and plenty of sunshine, for the best skiing this side of Powder. There is hope for a continuation of this great weather into at least part of the weekend. And Maine may miss this the weekend rain altogether. Check this video of Cranmore, provided by Ski New Hampshire. Trails counts are highest, and snow pack deepest of the winter.
Mountain Wrecking Crew Productions scored first tracks on Castlerock at Sugarbush Vermont Saturday February 27, 2010. Bob and Nancy Hennessey report nothing but powder after SuperStorm 2010. How did they get first tracks of Weds-Fri Snow? We had wind hold Thursday and Friday.. leaving knee to waist deep pockets of snow. This weekend we get sunshine along with the deepest base depths of the winter.
We are in day 2 of, what now looks like, a 6 day storm. Here is video from Wednesday at Attitash New Hampshire, along with snow amounts from part one of this two part storm.
The snow in this image sent to us from Killington Ski Resort in Vermont is the same as the entire mountain ridge from Western Massachusetts up Route 100 to Canada. We have 19″ at Killington and counting.
New Hampshire and Maine are up next. We all get several feet of snow through Sunday February 28, 2010.
See Snocountry.com for latest totals near you.
We have classic snow filled wind blowing in from Canada this morning, Friday February 19, 2010. North facing slopes from Bolton Valley to Balsams Wilderness are reporting 3″-8″ Fresh. This video from Mt.Sunapee has some of the totals from our Tuesday Storm.
We also have wind hold issues. Snow showers will continue on north facing slopes this weekend. On the sunny south facing slops from Mt.Snow to Waterville Valley to Sunday River. Either way, the temperatures are coming up and the wind is coming down. We have a little preview of Spring Skiing before the wintry weather (SNOW) returns by Tuesday and lasts into next weekend.

This photo from Jay Peak shows some powder skiing form Thursday. Check SnoCountry.com for latest updates.
The United States leads the world in Medal Count in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. We have to brag about the number of Medal winning Olympians from New England. First to the podium was Hannah Kearny of Norwich Vermont, trains with Waterville Valley BBTS, got to the podium first in the Moguls on Saturday February 13. Also a Waterville Alum, Scotty Lago (Leggo), of Seabrook NH wins Bronze in snowboarding.
Bode Miller of Franconia New Hampshire won a Bronze in the Downhill Monday. He is still up for three more races, Super-G, Slalom, and Super Combined. How many medals will Bode win?
We are already psyched to race Bode when he comes home to Cannon, for the second annual Bodefest April 3, 2010.
Also on Monday February 15th, Seth Wescott came from behind to win Gold in Snowboardcross. Have you ever seen so many wipe outs in Boardercross?
Usulaly wipeouts in Boardercross happen when riders fight for position, this time riders were just wiping out without hitting each other! The snow appeared chunky monkey as the sun was setting and slush turned into ice cookies. So what does Seth do? he hangs back and lets the leaders wipe out, then he passes the last competitor as they raced to the finish, Outstanding! The party is on at Seth’s Home Town Pub, The Rack at Maine.

This place will be hopping from now until Reggea Fest on April 15-18, 2010. Hopefully this SurfSkiWeatherMan will make an appearance at as many of these New England Hometown Hoedowns as Possible.

Do you have a favorite New England competitor in the Olympics? Leave us a comment, send us a link. The Fun has just begun! And the weather is finally cooperating.
We endured 2″ of Rain and Melting Monday, now winter is back. Snow guns have been turned on, groomers are tilling the snow to a granular surface, and it’s snowing! Mount Mansfield has been snowing since Tuesday afternoon. A foot of new snow at Stowe (Jay & Bolton too) goes above and beyond the forecast of any man or machine.

Powder Alert at Stowe, Weds Jan 27 photo.
For complete snow condition update, see snocountry.com.
We have up slope snow and squalls in the forecast through Thursday Night, then the wind and chill Friday. The weekend looks cold and dry.. not too windy.
This is the finest combination of comfortable temperatures, abundant Sunshine, and Snowfall, that we ever see in January. Bill and Paula Petrone cook up a Savory and/or Sweet Breakfast every day at thier Buttonwood Inn on the Side of Mount Surprise in The Mount Washington Valley New Hampshire. The Nordic Ski Trails passright out back, and you are minutes from Wildcat, Attitash, Black, and Cranmore. This video shows the weekend sunshine and weekday Powder. Thomas Prindle of Wilcdcat Mountain rips it up. More sunshine is in the forecast for this weekend, January 22-24, 2010.
How is second storm 2010 treating you? Our Email box is full of photos and commentary. Here is a sampling of our ‘Janury mid-thaw Rain/Ice/Snow’ storm. The storm center is down to 986 millibars (29.1″) , moving eastward off Nantucket this afternoon, January 18, 2010.

Hi Tim,
About 6″ of heavy wet snow in Gardner.
Ava Corso and her grandfather Norm Wironen took advantage of the heavy wet snow to make a snowman today in Gardner.
If you use it, at what time Tim?
(How is 4:20 PM for you Paul?)
Sun is shining now at 2:00.
Thanks,
Paul DeMeo

Before talking more about the weather has happened.. we should probably have a few words on the weather that is going to happen..
An upper low is crossing New England Tuesday into Wednesday. A new low will form over Cape Cod, with rain and snow breaking out through Tuesday. The hills of Western MA and most of VT & NH will likely See an inch or two of snow by Tuesday Evening. Temperatures are warm enough for rain (or snow that melts on contact) in the rest of southern new England. For Tuesday night, rain will change to snow before ending south, while in Maine the snow will become moderate to heavy. Another half a foot of snow is likely from Portland to Houlton by Weds AM.
Now back to our Monday system.. The max appears to be 15″ in Ossipee NH.
.

With the heavy snow my birch tree is bent right over. taken at 9am monday morning.

From about 10 last night 2 5AM in the morning we were stuck right on the Rain/Snow line. This lead to some sleet and ice accretion check out this pics from my balcony.
. It would be REALLY cool if you could show them on air. For some reason i’m always on the rain snow line. We picked up about 2-3″ of snow.
.
.

Namaste to my favorite weather team!
I thought you might enjoy these. I had the day off, and it was the
“Perfect Storm” for a snowman, so I made my first snowman in probably
over 10 years (2nd in probably 40 years!). I guess it is one of my
ways of staying young-at-heart as I close in on 51 later this month! ![]()
I really enjoy the HD weather, it is on Comcast channel 710 for those
of us who are former Adelphia customers being served from the
Londonderry cable head.
Before the “fun”, had to clear the driveway…

It’s been wild and woolly mammath-like here. Rain then wet snow then heavy rain then sleet, then sleet and snow then briefly all snow and now sleet in Marblehead. Total frozen accum about 2.5 inches as of a short time ago.. I recorded 1.41 inches rain and melted frozen @ 7 25 which I submitted to CoCoRaHS.. Very juicy and very windy system. The temp 31.1 F winds to moderate gale. for a couple hours early this morn winds frequently gusted to the vicinity of 50 mph.
Great work Matt, the graphics for snow accum is a little confusing – 3D?
